The Haiku in You!
Grade Level: Six
Activity Description:
In order for the students to achieve the GLO’s and SLO’s, they must experience language in a variety of forms and apply those forms when expressing own interpretations and responses. For this activity, the students will explore a website that has numerous activities dealing with language and in order to move on to the next step of the lesson they must complete three separate activities on the website. Once completed, the students will move on to another website which provides information on the Haiku poem and provides examples using picture prompts. The students will choose an illustration and create a haiku poem using some of the descriptive language found on the first website.

I chose to use these two websites because they are both very interactive and practical. By using this technology I am providing the students with the opportunity to take more control in their learning and because it is more exciting than simply sitting at a desk and listening to a lecture, they will become more excited and engaged.

My SMART Board Activity

Hey all, hope everyone is doing great, keeping up with their assignments, and not getting too stressed out! For my SMART board assignment I created a lower elementary English/Language Arts activity that incorporates tracing and reading three letter animal words which they then have to match with the corresponding pictures by physically drawing lines between picture and word. This assignment was a little more complicated than first anticipated...

Power Point Alterations
Well, what a randomly designed presentation, huh? I probably made more than five changes but here are the most significant ones:
1) I changed all the slides to the same background design and color to create unity and cohesion.
2) I changed the size and color of the text so that it was larger and easier to read.
3) I re-wrote much of the text so that it was simpler, grammatically correct, and easier to follow.
4) I added an extra slide in order to spread out the information and help simplify each slide.
5) I added images where appropriate in order to create interest and a little bit of diversity.
Hope everyone is enjoying PS1 as much as I am. I have to say that the ABC group rocks!!! Thanks for being so awsome:-)

One Step at a Time...
As I awoke this morning I found myself asking that one, all important, self defining question... what the hell am I doing with my life? I realize that I am only 25 but the years seem to be moving faster and faster and somehow I feel like I am falling so far behind. Although I moved out of my parents house when I was just eighteen, backpacked through Europe for months on end, lived and worked next door to a sandy beach in Spain and had a successful career, I seem to have come full circle. I am once again living back at home and am once again back in school. I have to admit that sometimes it is hard to accept the fact that life is so far from the way I imagined it would be at 25 but on days like these I must remind myself just why I am doing what I am. It is my love of children and my desire to help those in dire need that spurs me to continue my schooling and put up with my often overbearing parents.I want to be a teacher and more importantly, I want to make a difference in the lives of children who would otherwise be lost in the system and left behind. So that is what I am doing with my life and as I get ready for the day ahead I can rest assured that I have not moved backwards in my life but taken a huge leap forward...
Just a reminder that all assignments are due and must be passed in to the professor by the last day of classes which is October the 28th for ABC section!
