Grade Level: Six
Activity Description:
In order for the students to achieve the GLO’s and SLO’s, they must experience language in a variety of forms and apply those forms when expressing own interpretations and responses. For this activity, the students will explore a website that has numerous activities dealing with language and in order to move on to the next step of the lesson they must complete three separate activities on the website. Once completed, the students will move on to another website which provides information on the Haiku poem and provides examples using picture prompts. The students will choose an illustration and create a haiku poem using some of the descriptive language found on the first website.

SLO’s:

Engage in exploratory communication to share personal responses and develop own interpretations
2.4 Create Original Texts
use literary devices, such as imagery and figurative language, to create particular effects
ICT Outcomes:
C1
Students will access, use and communicate information from a variety of technologies.
C3
Students will critically assess information accessed through the use of a variety of technologies.
C4
Students will use organizational processes and tools to manage inquiry.
Technology Rationale:
I chose to use these two websites because they are both very interactive and practical. By using this technology I am providing the students with the opportunity to take more control in their learning and because it is more exciting than simply sitting at a desk and listening to a lecture, they will become more excited and engaged.

Hey Chelsie,
Looks great!
I like how you give the students more resources than simply lecturing in front of the class. The only suggestion I would have is that being grade six students, they or I would most likely take ideas found on the internet instead of creating something original. I'm sorry, I didn't want to criticize, the forces that be made me. Other than that, awesome job!
